Home Owner Water User,
Country Club Drive, Windsong and Inverness Ct.water schedule has been move to Wed, Friday, and Sunday. The current schedule has not resulted in better pressure. You will continue to receive water today. Moving forward for the rest of the year, water will be available on this rotation. Thanks for your patience as we are trying to improve the water distribution system.

Home Owner Water User,
The Riverton Country Club Board of Directors has a made a decision, with the recommendation of several homeowners, that we change the delivery days of homeowner water. This change in procedure is considered only a test to see if can better serve our customers with better pressure and more volume of water. The Country Club will deliver water to homeowners every other day, excluding Mondays, to help improve properties with volume and water pressure issues. The new test of water delivery will begin on August 23, 2011. All homeowners will need to adjust all irrigation clocks accordingly. Please only have your clocks set to run on your scheduled days and off on the days that you don’t receive water. Leaving clocks on during times that water is not available cause’s pressure problems when water is turned back on the following day. When clocks are running with no water available creates a problem in draining the system. Then when water is delivered the next day we are filling empty lines, which results in pressure and volume loss. The system never has a chance to get fully pressurized. Your cooperation will ensure that every homeowner will have consistent pressure. Once again this is a test, to see if we can deliver better pressure. Listed below are the days that water will be available to your property. If there are any questions on which schedule you are grouped in please call the Maintenance shop at 856-0231.

Home Owner Water User,
Please take the time to read through the information packet enclosed in this mailing.
There is a detailed outline on different variables that affect the volume and water pressure for all users off of the Leclair irrigation
ditch. The irrigation schedule for homeowner use will remain the
same as last year. There will be water delivered to users from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday with Monday being a
maintenance day for the irrigation system.
The golf course has a responsibility as well as the home owners have a responsibility to ensure that we have a successful irrigation season.
There is a detailed guideline of actions that need to be taken for the system to work effectively.
Please take these responsibilities into consideration as it will increase the availability of water and pressure. RCC has purchased a new
program for the pump station to increase pressure during the day for home owner use. The best strategy to take is communicating with your
neighbors on your irrigation line and schedule your cycles together. Try not to water at the same times or days.
For example, consider rotating irrigation schedules for mornings, afternoons, and evenings, as well as, half of the homeowners watering on
odd days and the other half is watering on even days. This will not only help increase your water pressure, but will also develop a strong
root system for your turf and give you a healthier yard.
Every year, RCC is looking to better serve its customers, and I believe by taking these steps it will help solve some of the issues we have
had in the past. Please check rivertoncountryclub.net through out the year, as I will be posting updates for home owner water users.
Sincerely,
Chris Thomas
Irrigation Update for Homeowner Water Use.
There are many different variables that affect the volume and water pressure for the Riverton Country Club and home owners.
- 1st Variable – The level of water in the canal
- This varies from year to year.
- Is determined by the Leclair Ditch Company.
- The canal does not run at capacity in the spring or the fall.
- The irrigation season is controlled by the Ditch Co.
- Weather is another variable amount of water in the ditch.
- How much water is available from snow melt or runoff.
We are not in control of the canal. The canal is controlled by mother-nature and the ditch company. If the ditch is not at full capacity; volume and pressure are affected. Pressure is poor and there is not enough water for every user.
- 2nd Variable – The amount of users on the irrigation system.
- There are two fields taking water before our pump station.
- There are homeowners taking water before our pump station.
- The number of users has increased significantly over the last few years.
- 3rd Variable – Scheduling and the amount of water used.
- At full capacity of the canal the system can only handle 1300 gpm.
- Golf course schedules 500-1300 gpm per night at 90 psi.
- Home owners use 200-2300 gpm per day at 25-45 psi.
The homeowners are using more water than the golf course. The course can only control the time homeowners receive water (8 a.m. -8 p.m.). The course can not control how long or how many times a homeowner waters per day.
- 4th Variable – Water quality
- Water will be dirty during run-off.
- Water will be dirty after a heavy rain event.
- It will contain sand and silt and other debris.
- Dirty water can cause homeowner valves to quit working.
Remember the irrigation supply comes from a river. Even though there is a filtration system, which consists of a screen at intake, two sand separators and two teklene filters. There will be undesirable materials that get into the system or cause the system to shut down. A few incidents that can cause the system to shut downare: the intake screen plugs up with leaves, moss, twigs, branches or dead animals. When the intake screen plugs this causes the system to crash because there is no way water can enter into the system. At this time it needs to be cleaned and it takes time to pressurize the system again. Other issues can occur in the pump station filters as well causing the system to crash.
Actions to take for increased water pressure.
- Homeowner Responsibility.
- Water every other day, twice per week, or once per week.
- Turf grass only needs 1” of water per week during the hottest months of the year.
- By watering deeply and infrequently will make your turf healthier by developing a deep root system.
- Watering lightly and frequently develops a shallow root system.
- Check your irrigation clocks.
- Make sure your clocks are not set to come on during 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- If you are trying to water during the night all you are doing is draining the system.
- Make sure your irrigation cycles start after 8 a.m. and end before 8 p.m.
- This means we need more water to fill the lines in the morning when the electric valves turn on at 8 a.m.
- Program your clocks to water deeply and infrequently.
- Become good water users.
- If it rains or snows adjust your clocks accordingly.
- That counts for the 1” per week total your turf needs per week.
- Get with your neighbors on your line and schedule your irrigation cycles together.
- Not everyone on the same line can irrigate at the same time. The irrigation pipe only holds so much water.
- If there is a problem contact the Maintenance Shop if you don’t have any water for more than one day.
- Usually if there is a problem we are already working on it.
- Remember if you don’t have water we don’t have water either in most cases.
- Golf Course Responsibility
- Pressurizing the system during the day.
- We run our system at 90 psi at night.
- We are purchasing a new program (costs $4500) for the pump station so we can adjust the operating pressure sustain at 55-60 psi during the day.
- We have not run pressure for homeowners in the past because 90 psi is too much for home systems.
- Why we need to schedule homeowners every other day?
- If we are going to give an operating pressure of 55-60 psi we can not give water to everyone everyday. Remember the range for homeowner use is between 200 to 2300 gpm.
- It is physically impossible to have pressurized water and give it everyone with out the system crashing. We can only control the water window not how many people are watering at a given time.
- Start date and end date of irrigation system.
- Will vary from year to year.
- Once the ditch is turned on for the irrigation season the ditch needs to be flushed and cleaned of large debris before the screen is put in place. This is the first step.
- 2nd the water level needs to be at least ¾ up the screen to have enough water to give it to the homeowners and golf course.
In order for this partnership to work between the homeowners and the Riverton Country Club we all need to be working off of the same game plan. Implementing the new water schedule and pressurizing the system during the day will help with pressure and availability of water. Taking the time to adjust your irrigation clocks for the appropriate times and amount of water your turf needs, and working with your neighbors will help the irrigation season be more enjoyable. It is hard to compare the water use of a golf course and the water use for homeowners. We are dealing with different variables. We are managing cart traffic, low mowing heights of turf, extreme slopes, and sand profile greens which drain extremely quick. Although are landscape uses are different, we do water infrequently and deep. The 1“of water per week rule is in effect.
